Fall 2010: Estee Lauder Introduces the Blue Dahlia Pure Color Collection

NEW PURE COLOR
BY TOM PECHEUX, ESTÉE LAUDER CREATIVE MAKEUP DIRECTOR
“The blue in the collection is an iconic color for autumn and winter. I like to give women choices in the way that they look. From a neutral to a smoky to a fashionable, strong look, the blue can be used with them all.”
Tom Pecheux, Creative Makeup Director, Estée Lauder

Introducing the new vision in color for the Fall 2010 season, the Blue Dahlia Pure Color Collection for smoldering eyes, shimmering lips and bold nails. Estée Lauder Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux debuted his inspiration for this collection backstage at the Derek Lam Autumn/Winter 2010 Fashion Show. At the “Myth of the West” themed show, Tom created a strong, intensely energetic look that perfectly tied together the design and fantasy of the clothing. The complete makeup collection includes two distinct looks as well as two complementary lip products that create a visionary, avant-garde look with a touch of whimsical glamour.

In this intensely seductive collection eyes take center stage in electric blue and vintage violet, lips are shimmering in subtle shades of pale pink and raspberry shine while rich nail hues of deep navy and iridescent lilac complete the look.

RICH, STRIKING EYES
The Pure Color Five Color EyeShadow Palettes in Blue Dahlia and Surreal Violet are a powerful mix of cool, mysterious shades that mimic the fiercely theatrical world at the edge of night. Housed in a sophisticated golden-mirrored compact with oversized Estée Lauder cartouche, each palette holds five mesmerizing shadow and texture combinations to create endless looks that are both enticing and alluring. Layer the different shades and textures for optimal intensity.

Highlight and illuminate your eye look with four new shades of Pure Color EyeShadow in Twilight Rose, Sepia Sand, Enchanted Meadow and Emerald Star for a standout pop of color.

STUNNING, JUICY LIPS DRENCHED IN SHIMMER
Ethereal shades of raw pink and magenta adorn the lips in a soft, sensual shine. Swipe shades of Pure Color Gloss Stick in Rose Dusk, Night Bloom, Orchid Dream and Mauve Mirage and layer with Pure Color Gloss in Rock Candy, Twilight Petal, Raspberry Pop and Star Pink for a subdued lip look that perfectly balances strong eyes for a lasting impression.

SUPER CHIC, LUXE SHADES FOR NAILS
Complement lustrous lips with perfectly polished nails in mythical shades. Estée Lauder’s Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Blue Dahlia and Surreal Violet perfectly pair with the collection to finish off nails and toes in dramatic, fearless color.
DYNAMIC COMPLIMENTARY SHADES FOR LIPS
Give your pout a punch of color with a deep berry shade of Pure Color Gloss or Pure Color Gloss Stick in Midnight Bloom.

The Blue Dahlia Pure Color Fall 2010 collection will be available for a limited time at all Estée Lauder counters nationwide and www.esteelauder.com starting in July 2010.

DKNY Supports Eco-Friendly Beauty with PureDKNY

A feeling of peace, a moment to escape from everyday worries, time out for the things that are closest to our hearts: love, joy, comfort. These sentiments are the foundation of DKNY's new fragrance pureDKNY.

DKNY Fragrances is taking small steps toward responsible practices in fragrance, and their new scent is one example of that - scent with a conscience.

Classified as a soft floral it is the drop of vanilla grown in Uganda that envelopes the fragrance as its signature ingredient. Through a partnership with CARE, a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, pureDKNY is supporting a 15-month project that will reach 1,650 vanilla farmers, approximately 60% women, in rural communities in Uganda's south-western Mukono district.

The eco-friendly pureDKNY packaging communicates its message in both style and substance. Inspired by the shape of a raindrop, the minimalist clear glass bottle is 100% recyclable. The fragrance's box/carton is made from Certified Forest Paper and wrapped in Nature Flex, a certified biodegradable and compostable material made from tree pulp.

What DKNY would like us to breathe in with its new scent creation is that pureDKNY is more than a fragrance, it's a lifestyle, a state of mind, a way of being and living respnsibly. It's about respecting nature and taking simple, yet meaningful actions to make a difference. pureDKNY celebrates the beauty of caring - for ourselves, for others and for the world we live in. Elevating the message a step higher, DKNY chose supermodel and ambassador of sustainable living Angela Lindvall for the pureDKNY ad campaign.

This is a truly beautiful fragrance, a balanced blending of floral with subtle touches of vanilla, amber and wood. It features a "dew-drop petal accord" of lotus flower and bulgarian rose, which harmonize with the floral heart of transparent jasmine, freesia and lush orchid. The base envelops you in warmth with white amber, creamy sandalwood (you can really smell this ... delightful) and a drop of pure Ugandan vanilla in water. Simply beautiful.

Available in 1 oz, 1.7 oz and 3.4 oz recyclable raindrop glass bottles, pureDKNY is available through DKNY fragrances. Visit them at puredkny.com.

Lotsa New Lubin at Aedes

Four new fragrances join the Lubin family of eau de toilettes and Aedes de Venustas has them.  The stories behind the fragrances are as sensual and evocative as the scents themselves.

INEDITE

Aziyadé, a young Circassian harem girl imprisoned in an oriental palace, embodies the unreachable and sensual beauty of which every man dreams. The word “inédite” means “unpublished” in French, like the story the young author in love with Aziyadé didn’t dare tell.
The sweet seduction of sugared almonds warms up into a harmony of vanilla and roses, reminding us of those spicy sweets so adored by oriental beauties. After a top note of rose water that is fresh and pure like a Sicilian orange, Inédite is a sweet and spicy creation adorned with a floral harmony of heliotrope, lilac and rose, and topped with a fruity note of nectarines.
Vanilla, iris and patchouli transform the sweet seduction of sugared almonds into aromas of cinnamon, pepper and coriander. Cedar and musk base notes make its Eastern-inspired foundation even more irresistible.
  • Top notes: Sicilian mandarin, bergamot, pink peppercorns from Mexico.
  • Middle notes: Russian coriander and cinnamon, Javanese cloves, heliotrope and lilac, nectarine, Damask rose and cabbage rose.
  • Base notes: Vanilla, iris, patchouli, Kashmir cedar, white musk.

FIGARO

Bold and seductive like the Figaro from Beaumarchais’ plays, Figaro by Lubin takes liberties with conventions much like the character that inspired it. An extremely original unisex fragrance, its construction is based on the daring opposition of vetiver and fig, which starts out green and ends up with gentle amber and woody base notes.
At the heart of this fragrance is a counterpoint of vetiver and fig brightened by notes of apple, clover and plum. Cilantro evokes the green of nature and seaside pines, mingling with ocean breezes. These woody, amber tones finally give way to vetiver, sandalwood, tonka bean and benzoin balm base notes.
  • Top notes: Grapefruit, bergamot, pink peppercorns, marine pine.
  • Middle notes: Fig and apple, Damson, coriander leaves, clover.
  • Base notes: Essence of vetiver, styrax, sandalwood, tonka bean.

BLUFF

Bluff is at first a refreshing invigorating blend of citrus fruits, wood extracts and spices. It then reveals itself as an extremely elegant yet sensual unisex eau de parfum.

The composition is inspired from the invigorating remedies supplied to the pioneers in the Wild West during the gold rush. Once developed by emigrant physicians, these tonics were first considered as medicines. They would soon become a part of American culture, and later be transformed into soft drinks for young people.

A distinguished fragrance with deceiving first impressions: crowned with lime, bergamot and an accord of nutmeg and cinnamon, Bluff opens as fresh and spicy. It then reveals sensual, with mouthwatering heart notes of clary sage, iris and kola nut. This blend rests on an exquisite foundation of Vetiver cedar, patchouli and sandalwood vanilla.
  • Top notes: lime, bergamot, nutmeg and cinnamon.
  • Middle notes: Clary sage, iris and kola nut.
  • Base notes: Vetiver, cedar, patchouli and sandalwood vanilla.

ITASCA

The Mississippi River finds its main source in the legendary Lake Itasca in the heart of Minnesota. Itasca by Lubin is reminiscent of the forests covering the American landscape once inhabited by the Algonquin tribes and pioneers exploring their depths.
Core notes of Minnesotan red pine mingle with a base of amber, incense, vetiver Java and Texas cedar woods. After fresh top notes of juniper berries, a spicy harmony then unfolds where dominant woody notes are accented with clove and nutmeg.
A spiced vetiver, Itasca opens with citrus fruits refreshed by juniper berries, followed by a harmonious combination of oriental woods, vetiver, and red Minnesotan pine. This scent evokes the forests that surround Lake Itasca, the source of the great Mississippi river, and a legendary place guarded by Algonquin Indians.
  • Top notes: Neroli, marigold, mandarin, juniper berry and grapefruit.
  • Middle notes: Clove, tonka bean, clary sage, nutmeg, geranium flower.
  • Base notes: Itasca red pine (pinus resinosa), Java vetiver and Texan cedar, Partak incense, Ethiopian myrrh, amber and Canadian fir balsam.

The Inedite is seriously calling my name!  Can you hear it?
All four Lubin fragrances above are available in 2.5 oz eau de toilette contemporary glass bottles and retail for $110 each.  For more information on these glorious fragrances, please visit aedes.com.

A Brief Look at Tommy Hilfiger Autumn Winter 2010

This collection and the beauty look (hair and makeup) capture my attention in every way. Classic, preppy, stylish and conservative-chic!

With Peter Som collaborating on this collection, Tommy Hilfiger's Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 offerings are being described as lively and stronger than his most current designs have been in some time. Som's involvement is surrounded by a bit of intrigue. On the one hand, he wasn't out front and available for interviews; but on the other, the company isn't hiding the news.

Described as "Preppy With a Pop," the collection channeled a girl the show notes described as a young Katharine Hepburn, someone combining an East Coast pedigree with a touch of sass. As one has come to expect, Hilfiger's classics showed in all their glory: the peacoat, the trench, the pencil skirt, however played up with a youthful twist.

VANITY FAIR: Angelina Jolie and Her Lil Dude Looks Like a Lady (or Is It the Other Way Around?)

“No, I’m not pregnant,” Angelina Jolie tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Rich Cohen, from the set of her movie in Venice, Italy. Perhaps in the future? “We’re not opposed to it. But we want to make sure we can give everybody special time. They’re kids now, and can play together, but they’re going to need a lot more talking in the middle of the night, like I did with my mom for hours. We want to make sure we don’t build a family so big that we don’t have absolutely enough time to raise them each really well.”

Jolie says she and Brad Pitt also are not “against getting married,” but “it’s just like we already are. Children are clearly a commitment, a bigger commitment [than marriage]. It’s for life.”

Despite her dedication to her work, she thinks she won’t do it much longer: “It’s not the most important thing in my life. Acting helped me as I was growing up. It helped me learn about myself, helped me travel, helped me understand life, express myself, all those wonderful things. So I’m very, very grateful, it’s a fun job. It’s a luxury. Look, I’m at work today in the middle of Venice. But I don’t think I’ll do it much longer.” Jolie says this reassessment is mostly due to her family: “Because I have a happy home….I got back from work last night, and everybody was playing music and dancing and I suddenly found myself dancing around with a bunch of little fun crazy people.”

Jolie talks extensively about her children, explaining that “Mad’s a real intellectual, which I can take no credit for genetically. He’s great at school, great at history. He feels like he could be a writer or travel the world and learn about places and things. Zahara’s got an extraordinary voice and is just so elegant and well spoken. Shiloh’s hysterically funny, one of the goofiest, most playful people you’ll ever meet. Knox and Viv are classic boy and girl. She’s really female. And he’s really a little dude.”

Jolie says that when she was growing up she was most like her daughter Shiloh: “Goofy and verbal, the early signs of a performer…. I used to get dressed up in costumes and jump around. But at some point, I got closed off, darker. I don’t remember anything happening. I think you just get hit with the realities of certain things in life, think too much, start to realize the world isn’t as you wished it would be, so you deepen. Then, as I had kids and got older—being goofy, lighter—it all came back.”

Roxy note: Anyway you slice it, this child is absolutely adorable!  Who could begrudge her expressing herself as she desires?  In the long run, does it matter? She is a gorgeous little beam of light!

And what does Angelina think of Brad’s strange, wispy beard? “I love Brad in every state.”

Elsewhere in the article she talks about a range of topics.

On what Brad has been up to in Venice: “He sculpts and designs. He makes furniture, sculpts things related to houses. Traditional male.”

On Brad with the kids: “I keep telling Brad he owes me. He’s had a few months off in one of the most beautiful cities in the world with the children. And he’s such an artist and goes to the stone yards and the art exhibits, and loves being in such a cultural place.”

On a potential Mr. & Mrs. Smith sequel: “People have tried. And it’s strange: do we have kids in the movie? We’ve thought about that, but it becomes personal now that we actually have kids. And if we work on it, we pull from our own life, which is funny to us, but you feel strange sharing too much. We did ask somebody to look into Mr. & Mrs. to see if they could crack a sequel, but there wasn’t anything original. It was just, Well, they’re going to get married, or they’ve got kids, or they get separated. Never great.”

On co-starring again with Brad: “I’d love to. We’ve talked about it. We’d have to figure out who’s going to watch the kids, but it’s really about finding the right thing, because we’ve looked. When you’re a couple, there are certain things people don’t want to see you do. It becomes too indulgent, too personal. I don’t think people want to see people who are really together intimate on-screen. Maybe we have to play bad guys that try to kill each other, so it’s just fun and aggressive, not dealing with some man-woman deal.”

Pitt acknowledges Jolie as a soulmate. "I have love in my life, a soulmate, absolutely," Pitt, 46, told Parade of Jolie, 34, with whom he has Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne. "It's a big step we've taken. We've put down roots together."

The August issue of Vanity Fair will be available on newsstands in New York and L.A. on Wednesday, June 30, and nationally and on the iPad on Tuesday, July 6.
